Dance to be you…dance through your heart and your feet will always follow…. Always give all you have to give and the rest will shine for itself, brighter than you could ever imagine, it came from you, be proud of all you can achieve.
My classes are a fusion of old school street dance such as house, hip hop and popping and locking, mixed with newer styles such as LA Style and street salsa. I try to push dancers to try new and emerging styles, as well as strengthening their foundations and understanding of the street dance genre. I’ve been dancing since the age of 5 and started teaching street dance as a junior assistant at the age of 16. Since then I’ve taught for the YMCA, Leodis Collective, King Kompany, M.A.D.E., WASP, Dance Factory York and have even taught dance and performing arts across various schools in northern Italy, covering styles from house to hip hop, to breaking, popping and locking and whacking. I’ve been a finalist for the over 18 Advanced soloists at the UDO World Championships, trained two teams up to qualify for the UDO World Championships, performed and choreographed for the International Fitness Showcase twice and produced a comedy dance set for Leeds Festival in 2013, as well as working on various music videos in a variety of styles.
Kelly Laws has just joined the teaching team at the space.
She has worked as a teacher and choreographer for over 4 years working in many different schools in and around Hull and East Riding. Whilst teaching Kelly has choreographed for productions such as grease and we will rock you. After completing her Dance and Musical Theatre degree at Renaissance arts were she stared in Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella.
Kelly is currently qualifying for tap, ballet and modern in I.D.T.A. and teaches many different kinds of dance including, ballet, tap, modern, commercial, street and musical theatre.
Kelly is very excited to be part of the space and can't wait to bring lots of different ideas and new classes.
A great dancer doesn't come from the technique. A great dancer comes from the passion that they bring.
Andy has worked with The Space Dance Studio since it opened in a variety of roles but now is chiefly responsible for delivering exciting opportunities for students to perform in.
Having worked on many voluntary drama projects around the UK before his settling in Hull he now enjoys looking for ways to encourage young people to let their inner star shine.
Andy works closely with parents and the dance tutors to find out which direction they want their performances and fundraising events to take them.
Always one for a keen eye on the innovative he welcomes new ideas and input that will challenge him and those around him. Andys philosophy is "The answer is Yes, now how do we make it happen?"
Steph's love of teaching gymnastics began through her work as a primary school teacher. Enjoying delivering gymnastics sessions in PE lessons, she soon began helping out with the after school gymnastics sessions. Persuaded to visit to a local gymnastics club, after her initial visit she was hooked. 4 years on, she is now a Level 2 coach and is training to be a regional judge for women’s gymnastics. Her biggest thrill is seeing the children’s confidence develop alongside their new skills.
Steph has always had a passion for dance and has tried out many different types of dance as a child and as an adult. Flamenco and salsa have become her two main passions and she has learnt from some of the best teachers nationally and internationally. She has been dancing and teaching both flamenco and salsa for over 10 years and is as passionate about them today as she always has been.
